Lightsource bp and Meta have finalized a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to support Mowata Solar, a 172-MW solar project in development in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. This PPA will add new generation to the local grid, furthering Meta’s commitment to expanding energy capacity in the regions where it operates.

This announcement marks another solar energy PPA with Meta managed by Lightsource bp. In 2022, Meta signed a long-term PPA for energy generated by the 134-MW Arche Solar project, in Gorham Township, Ohio.
“We’re committed to ensuring that the communities and grid infrastructure across Louisiana benefit from our presence. Partnering with Lightsource bp to bring 150 MWAC of new solar energy online through Mowata Solar is a meaningful step — it adds generation to the local grid and supports economic growth in Acadia Parish. Construction on Mowata Solar is set to begin later this year, creating an estimated 250-350 jobs.
Lightsource bp believes that successful projects begin with building strong community partnerships. In 2025, Lightsource bp made an initial $400,000 contribution to the Acadia Parish Industrial Development Board as part of its community benefit commitment to the area. The Acadia Parish Industrial Development Board supports investments in local education and infrastructure.
Additionally, Lightsource bp developed a long-term Land Management and Biodiversity Plan for Mowata Solar, which will support habitat conservation, land restoration and other biodiversity measures. Specifically, Lightsource bp will restore coastal native habitats by installing native Cajun Prairie habitat and local native woody plant species. These improvements are expected to increase soil health and provide an overall increased biodiversity across the site.
