Farming and agriculture automation tool designer Farmblox has launched its COP-R-LOCK security platform for the solar industry in an effort to bring real-time theft detection and remote monitoring technology to solar projects increasingly targeted by copper theft.

Copper thefts on solar farms in North Carolina and California highlight the scale of the problem: hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of copper wiring were stolen, resulting in significant monetary damages and system downtime.

Originally developed to help farmers combat rising agricultural crime, COP-R-LOCK leverages Farmblox’s sensor network to detect suspicious activity and instantly alert operators, even in remote areas with limited connectivity. The launch comes as copper theft continues to surge across energy and agricultural infrastructure, driven by rising copper prices and growing criminal activity targeting remote sites.

The COP-R-LOCK system uses Farmblox’s remote automation and monitoring platform to track environmental and infrastructure changes in real time. If wire tampering, fence breaches, or suspicious activity are detected, an alarm sounds on-site and operators receive immediate alerts through Farmblox’s mobile and desktop platform, allowing for rapid response before extensive damage occurs.

“Copper theft has evolved from an occasional nuisance into a major infrastructure threat,” said Nathan Rosenberg, CEO and co-founder of Farmblox. “What we learned protecting farms applies directly to solar infrastructure. These sites are remote, difficult to monitor and highly vulnerable to theft. A single incident can create millions of dollars in secondary damage and months of operational disruption. Our goal is to give operators real-time awareness and deterrence before theft escalates into catastrophic loss.”
