Renewable energy investor Skyview Ventures is deploying an environmental monitoring program across its portfolio of solar projects to manage pollinator activity on these sites. Through its solar subsidiary, Davis Hill Development, Skyview is integrating HiveTracks biodiversity monitoring on eight solar projects in New York, West Virginia, Tennessee and Connecticut. Skyview invested in HiveTracks and tested the platform on some project sites, and plans to expand to the rest in 2026.

HiveTracks hires local beekeepers to work on these solar sites and supports them with proprietary monitoring. HiveTracks was developed to monitor ecosystem health and impacts of solar projects on the site over time, from pre-construction through operations — all while producing honey. Honey produced on Skyview project sites in 2025 was donated to local food banks and given away as gifts.
With the data gathered on project sites — regarding the health of pollinators, and plant diversity and abundance — HiveTracks offers recommendations for proprietors to further improve local biodiversity.
“Solar energy already provides environmental benefits, but with HiveTracks, we saw an opportunity to go further,” said Maria Morales Ferrebus, solar development associate at Skyview Ventures. “In our first year, the data provided valuable insights into ecosystem health across our sites. For example, we identified areas with low plant diversity, which can reduce resilience to drought conditions and increase erosion risk. By implementing HiveTracks’ recommendations, we can adapt our operations and maintenance practices to enhance plant diversity, improve soil health, and strengthen pollinator habitats.”
Skyview stated in a press release that integrating HiveTrack has created a scalable modle supporting pollinator health and community agriculture, while generating guided data informing long-term land stewardship.
