Renewables companies Octopus Energy and Lunar Energy are rolling out an electricity plan in Texas that will pair fixed energy pricing with Lunar Energy’s home battery that manages when power is stored, used and shared.
The partnership will bring these systems to a limited number of homes across Texas, providing backup power, reducing strain on the grid and avoiding grid-related cost increases.
The plan combines an electricity rate with a home battery system in a single package at zero upfront cost. The energy rate will start at 8¢/kWh for three years with a $45 monthly subscription for the battery. Customers will have the option to own the battery at the end of the battery service agreement.
“This is a different way to think about an energy plan,” said Nick Chaset, CEO of Octopus Energy US. “Instead of just selling electricity, we’re giving customers a system that keeps their home running, manages costs in the background, and can step in when the grid is under pressure. Lunar brings not just great hardware, but a shared vision for how energy should work for customers. We’ve found real alignment in how we think about flexibility, affordability, and making these systems easy to adopt, which is what makes this partnership so compelling.”
A 30-kWh Lunar Battery will be installed and configured for the home, designed to keep essential power running and respond to grid conditions. The Lunar Battery and inverter are assembled in the United States.
“Home batteries were always going to become part of how the grid works. What’s new here is the accessibility — fixed pricing, no upfront cost, and a system that earns its keep every day,” said Kunal Girotra, CEO and founder of Lunar Energy. “Octopus built one of the most innovative energy brands in the world, and we share the belief that pairing a great retail plan with great technology can change what home energy actually looks like for people.”
