Facebook parent company Meta has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with renewable energy company Zelestra for the entire output of the 176-MWDC Skull Creek Solar Plant in Texas. This is the seventh PPA Meta has signed with Zelestra, representing 1.2 GWDC of potential solar capacity once projects are completed.

Meta’s power demands are expanding as the company builds artificial intelligence data centers. In addition to matching data center power demands with renewable energy, Meta is also investing in nuclear power to support a group of data centers in Ohio with an energy load of 1 GW, according to the Associated Press.

According to its website, Meta matches its energy demands with clean and renewable energy sources — like solar, wind, hydro and nuclear power — and reportedly procures power from 127 solar projects globally.

Zelestra also recently announced that its 81-MWDC Jasper County Solar Project in Indiana is now operating and began developing a 49-MW project in Ohio.

“Our clean energy collaboration with Meta is gathering momentum across the U.S.,” said Phil North, Zelestra’s U.S. CEO. “We are delighted to welcome full operations at Jasper County and start of construction at two further major projects, at the same time as closing another major agreement that will enable the construction of Skull Creek in Texas. Thanks to our forward-looking partnership, nearly 1.2 GWDC of new clean solar power will soon be operational in the U.S.”

The company’s U.S. headquarters is based in Arlington, Virginia, and the company is reportedly developing 15 GW of renewable energy projects.
