In each regular issue of Solar Power World, we’ll be featuring a solar PV project that goes beyond the inherent good of putting clean renewable electrons on the grid. When deployed thoughtfully, solar projects can have a lasting positive impact beyond the technology’s designed capabilities. Co-locating agricultural activities like animal grazing, crop cultivation or raising honeybees on a ground-mounted solar project site can make that land healthier in the process. Building an array on the roof of a non-profit with slim operating margins or for a person struggling to make ends meet can ensure longer economic stability for them. Temporary solar installations have brought life-saving power back to communities rocked by disasters.
Yes, electrifying the grid is admirable and necessary. But it’s also worth highlighting the projects that have managed to do even more.
