These solar carport projects were completed in December and interconnected with the city’s electric utility and bring the total solar capacity from SOLON and Onyx projects to 3.7 MW. SOLON provided EPC services for all projects while Onyx financed the systems and will serve as the long-term owner and operator.
“Direct interconnection to the city of Mesa electric utility allows these solar projects to deliver immediate and long-term value to the community,” said Brian Seibel, president of SOLON. “With a combined 3.7 MW now in operation, the city of Mesa is strengthening its energy resilience, reducing emissions and keeping energy dollars local.”
SOLON and Onyx previously partnered to complete four solar projects for Mesa in 2022, totaling 806 kWdc. These latest systems provide more than 600 shaded parking spaces.
“Onyx is proud to partner with SOLON to provide more affordable, predictable energy to the City of Mesa through the development of these localized energy solutions,” said Patty Rollin, Chief Commercial Officer at Onyx Renewables. “These systems were customized to meet the City of Mesa’s unique goals and will help them reduce energy expenses while strengthening the reliability and resilience of their local grid.”
