Australians know all too well that our weather can turn wild without notice. Hailstorms thump rooftops each year. Cyclonic winds batter homes. Solar panels cop the lot. REC Group has now delivered a major upgrade that makes its Alpha Pure RX panel one of the toughest on the market. The panel completed rigorous third-party testing that pushed it far beyond the usual certification requirements.

Under standard IEC61215 MQT 17 testing, panels only need to withstand 25 mm hailstones travelling at 83 kilometres per hour. REC has now proven that the Alpha Pure RX holds strong against far larger hailstones. It survived 45 mm hailstones fired at 110 kilometres per hour. This is the type of punishment seen in severe Australian storms.

Real hail testing at extreme impact levels

REC had already certified the panel for resistance to 35 mm hail. This latest milestone went much further. Testers subjected the Alpha Pure RX to 44 impacts using 40 mm and 45 mm ice balls across the surface of the module.

The big moment came after 22 direct hits from 45 mm ice balls. Even with this extreme battering, the panel:

  • Suffered no glass breakage
  • Passed all visual inspections
  • Met electrical and performance requirements

That result confirms that the Alpha Pure RX can tolerate up to ten times more kinetic energy per impact than the industry baseline. For homeowners in hail-prone areas, this level of resilience is a huge comfort.

Cemil Seber, REC Vice President of Global Marketing and Product Management, summed it up perfectly.
“REC is synonymous with premium quality in the solar industry. These specification improvements affirm the durability of REC Alpha Pure RX panels in harsh climates.” He added that going solar is a long-term decision. “By being resistant to 45 mm hailstones and allowing loads of up to 10,000 Pa, REC Alpha Pure RX panels can survive extreme conditions without costly damage and maintain high power output for the long term.”

Stronger construction for maximum reliability

Building a panel that shrugs off hail this size requires quality materials. REC uses a premium construction that includes:

  • 3.2 mm solar glass
  • A robust 30 mm frame
  • Two rear support bars that improve rigidity under load

This design now supports loads of up to 10,000 pascals when installed using a six-point clamping method. That equals roughly 1,020 kilograms per square metre. Snow, wind, and structural pressure are far less of a threat with that level of reinforcement. This suits regional and alpine Australian sites that face heavy seasonal conditions.

High power and sharp looks

The REC Alpha Pure RX is not just tough. It also performs at the top end of the residential market with up to 470 Wp output in a sleek full black finish. The panel uses REC’s award-winning Alpha technology, which is powered by high-efficiency heterojunction cells. These cells offer strong temperature performance and high real-world yields. Aussie homes often face hot roofs and fluctuating conditions, so stable power output is a must.

Long-term protection with REC ProTrust

A high-quality panel deserves a matching warranty. The Alpha Pure RX qualifies for the REC ProTrust package when installed by an REC Certified Solar Professional. This delivers:

  • 25-year product warranty
  • 25-year performance warranty
  • 25-year labour warranty

For households investing in solar for decades, this gives peace of mind. The combination of peak durability, strong output, and long-term cover makes the Alpha Pure RX a heavyweight contender in the premium solar segment.

Why this matters for Australians

Our weather systems are shifting. The Bureau of Meteorology has already warned that severe hailstorms are becoming more frequent in several regions. As solar uptake continues, protecting rooftop assets is essential.

Panels that fail under impact can cause costly repairs. Glass breakage can create safety issues. Insurance claims can drag on. A more durable panel is not just about toughness. It protects your investment and keeps your system producing clean energy for its full lifespan.

The Alpha Pure RX suits:

  • Homeowners in storm zones
  • Rural and regional families exposed to strong winds
  • Installers wanting reliable premium products
  • Households seeking long-term performance and warranty support

A global leader lifting the standard

REC Group has built its reputation on innovation and quality since 1996. With headquarters in Norway and operational bases in Singapore, the company continues to refine its technology to meet future energy needs.

The Alpha Pure RX upgrade is a clear sign of where the industry is heading. Tougher panels. Better reliability. Stronger consumer protections. In a country like Australia, these improvements make a real difference.

Durability and performance

The REC Alpha Pure RX is not just another solar panel. It represents a major step forward in durability and performance. Its ability to withstand 45 mm hail at high velocity, along with load ratings up to 10,000 Pa, places it in a league of its own.

If you want a panel that thrives in harsh weather, maintains output over time, and comes backed with a powerful 25-year warranty package, the Alpha Pure RX deserves a place at the top of your shortlist.
