U.S.-based solar panel backsheet manufacturer Endurans Solar has attained the IEC 62788-2-1:2023 certification for its new D15T transparent backsheet product, as part of the full D15-series safety standard validation by accredited independent testing laboratory TÜV Rheinland.
Designed specifically for utility-scale bifacial solar applications, the D15T backsheet provides a high-performance, lightweight alternative to standard rear glass, translating directly into significant cost savings and project efficiencies.
The D15T backsheet can provide panel manufacturers with cost reductions through weight savings. By replacing the 2-mm backside glass with the transparent polymer solution, the overall module weight is reduced, which can impact the project’s BOS costs by potentially requiring less steel for trackers and foundations.
For insurers and financiers, the D15T enables the use of thicker, more robust front glass without incurring the standard weight penalty of a glass-glass module. This results in improved hail and micro-crack resistance, de-risking the project’s long-term performance and ensuring greater bankability. There is also an enhanced lifetime yield due to the unique high performance polyolefin (HPO) backsheet technology.
The Endurans Solar D15T product is manufactured domestically in New Hampshire, offering crucial benefits for module manufacturers and developers navigating volatile trade environments.
“Our unique U.S.-manufactured backsheets provide domestic module manufacturers with enhanced supply chain stability and give developers the ability to increase their domestic content ratio — allowing for vital strategic advantage for projects targeting tax credit adders and U.S. government procurement requirements,” said Endurans Solar CEO Nate Coleman.
