Floating solar racking manufacturer Ciel & Terre has developed WattRack, a new line of racking with higher panel density than the company’s previous models. WattRack is capable of fitting 2.2 MW of solar power on a single hectare of water (almost 2.5 acres).

This new racking places modules in an east-west orientation, has a new rail mounting system and no longer has maintenance walkways between panel rows. Instead, Ciel & Terre has made a trolley that moves over the solar modules, so operators can still gain access for maintenance. The trolley has a load capacity of 300 kg and with a maximum speed of 5 km/h.
“With this system, maintenance operations become faster, simpler and safer,” the company stated in a press release. “Operational teams no longer need to carry equipment manually and work in a secure environment.”
WattRack joins Ciel & Terre’s existing line of floating solar racking of Fusio, a triangluar rack that when assembled makes arrays into a honeycomb shape; and Hydrelio, its flagship floating racking that is capable of working on bodies of water with varying depths, and has been on the market for 15 years.
