Arch Solar and SolarEdge announced new solar portfolios with two Wisconsin towns — Edgerton and Wauwatosa.

While Edgerton opted for an all-in, five-building portfolio installation completed in spring 2025, Wauwatosa follows a phased approach, with its most recent deployment at the police department.

In Edgerton, city leaders pursued an ambitious goal of installing solar across five municipal buildings in one coordinated push. The city now offsets 64% of its municipal energy usage, reducing carbon emissions while preserving critical city services. The 82.4-kWDC rooftop solar portfolio spans the City Hall, DPW Garage, police department, library and water building.

“The leadership of the City of Edgerton made a strategic commitment to invest Federal ARPA funding in energy-saving initiatives,” said City of Edgerton Administrator Ramona Flanigan. “A significant portion of this funding was dedicated to five solar installations, which will not only reduce energy costs but also lower carbon emissions. This forward-thinking approach will provide lasting benefits to our residents and the environment for decades.”

Meanwhile, the city of Wauwatosa has partnered with Arch Solar on municipal solar installations since 2021, gradually building clean energy capacity across the City Hall, library, Dept. of Public Works, fire department and EV charging infrastructure. Its latest 365-kWDC project at the Wauwatosa Police Department combines rooftop and ground-mounted arrays using SolarEdge SE50K-US domestic content inverters.

“Wauwatosa’s Common Council passed an energy resolution, including sourcing at least 25% of all energy used for municipal operations from local renewable sources,” said David Simpson, P.E., Director of Public Works for the City of Wauwatosa. “The solar projects we’ve pursued have helped us achieve almost half of that goal in a few short years. We recognize that how we operate today shapes the future of Wauwatosa, and that’s why we embrace sustainable practices as we continue to upgrade city infrastructure.”
