Trina Storage’s Elementa 2 Elevate liquid cooling system has earned a 20-year full lifecycle environmental product declaration (EPD) certification from UL Solutions.

The EPD certification, based on the ISO 14025 standard, provides an assessment of a product’s environmental impact across its entire lifecycle — from raw material extraction, manufacturing and transportation to operation, maintenance and recycling. Following months of independent verification, UL Solutions confirmed Elementa 2 Elevate’s compliance and supported Trina Storage in completing the registration on international EPD platforms.

This certification is likely the first in the energy storage industry to assess environmental impacts over a 20-year product lifecycle. Beyond standard product lifecycle phases like production, usage and disposal, the evaluation of the Elementa 2 Elevate liquid cooling system also accounts for the ecological footprint of preventive maintenance and component replacements, supporting a more comprehensive and accurate representation of the system’s sustainability.

“This achievement validates Trina Storage’s leadership in sustainable innovation and green manufacturing,” said Wei Deng, Head of Product and System Solution at Trina Storage. “By integrating advanced automated, digital, and intelligent production systems, Trina Storage has built smart zero-carbon factories powered by solar-plus-storage solutions. These initiatives have significantly reduced per-unit energy consumption, keeping emissions well below industry averages and enhancing product sustainability across its lifecycle.”

Additionally, the Elementa 2 Elevate solution has completed safety verification and bankability evaluation conducted by UL Solutions. UL Solutions’ bankability evaluation covered multiple key areas. On the product level, Elementa 2 Elevate — powered by 314-Ah battery cells — was reviewed against international safety and performance standards, including UL 1973, IEC 62619, UN38.3 and UL 9540A. The system’s design integrates an advanced multi-layer battery management system, automated fire suppression and a liquid-cooling solution, ensuring high levels of operational safety, thermal stability, and energy efficiency across a wide range of grid applications.

As part of the process, UL Solutions also conducted an on-site audit of Trina Storage’s automated manufacturing facility in Chuzhou, China. The review examined production quality control, supply chain management and overall manufacturing capabilities, confirming that Trina Storage operates a highly automated, well-managed production line that meets global standards for consistency and scalability.

“This recognition from UL Solutions reinforces our dedication to delivering energy storage systems that meet the highest standards of safety and technical performance,” said Mike Watson, Head of Product at Trina Storage North America. “Elementa 2 Elevate was designed specifically to meet the expectations of the North American market, and this report confirms its value as a dependable, bankable asset.”
