UL 61730 is the updated version of UL 1703, the “Standard for Photovoltaic (PV) Module Safety Qualification.” The Vertex N 2,000-V is the first 210R panel to receive the UL 61730 certification for 2,000-V models. The “210-mm reduced” (210R) wafer has been adopted by Trina for projects looking for smaller-in-width solar panels. The 210R wafer is a G12 (210-mm) wafer with a reduced width (182 mm).

UL Solutions evaluated the quality and safety of Trina’s 2,000-V module in a wide range of environmental conditions. The module completed numerous tests, including PID-induced degradation, damp heat, thermal cycling, ultraviolet aging and B & B1 sequence tests. Trina’s test performance confirmed the module’s reliability in high-voltage environments and the ability to meet the extreme demands of 2,000-V applications.

Based on Trina’s n-type TOPCon technology, the 2,000-V module delivers up to 620 W and 22.7% efficiency. These advancements increase string power and enhance system performance for utility-scale solar projects, translating to lower balance-of-system (BOS) and labor costs, improved levelized cost of energy (LCOE), and shorter payback periods.

This module underwent design and material upgrades to overcome the technical challenges associated with high-voltage environments. New innovations in creepage distance considerations, the use of high-insulation materials and an optimized glass structure, along with enhanced components such as junction boxes, contribute to improved performance, reliability and safety. These improvements reduce the risk of arc breakdowns, preventing short circuits and potential fire hazards while also slowing the aging process of materials in high-voltage settings, ensuring the module’s long-term, stable operation.
