Season 9 of Open Homes Australia continues to showcase some of the country’s most inspiring homes, but Episode 2 delivers something especially meaningful. Nestled in Maleny, in Queensland’s stunning Sunshine Coast Hinterland, this remarkable property is not just a luxury escape. It is also the latest prize home from Endeavour Foundation, supporting Australians with intellectual disability for 75 years. In the segment, Energy Matters’ Roshan Ramnarain tours the breathtaking home alongside Dominic Taylor, General Manager of Endeavour Lotteries, while Leigh Storr from Resinc Solar explains the advanced Anker SOLIX technology powering the property.

The result is a dream home designed not only for luxury and comfort, but also for energy independence.

A hinterland home designed for connection

From the moment Roshan arrives in Maleny, the home makes an impression. The property combines contemporary architecture with a warm lodge-inspired feel, featuring soaring ceilings, expansive open-plan living, guest accommodation, and breathtaking hinterland views.

Dominic Taylor explains that the home was carefully designed to celebrate the foundation’s 75th anniversary, with a focus on creating memorable shared spaces while still maintaining privacy for family living.

The property includes:

  • Multiple spacious bedrooms
  • Large indoor and outdoor entertaining areas
  • A pool and outdoor pizza oven
  • Elevated hinterland views
  • A wood-fired hot tub
  • Separate zones for guests and family living

As Roshan points out during the walkthrough, the home balances openness and intimacy exceptionally well, creating a space equally suited to entertaining or quiet retreat. However, behind the beautiful design sits one of the home’s biggest highlights: a cutting-edge solar, battery, and EV charging system from Anker SOLIX, installed by Resinc Solar.

Anker SOLIX technology built for energy independence

Modern Australian homes are demanding more from their energy systems than ever before. Homeowners want lower bills, blackout protection, EV readiness, and systems that can handle increasingly extreme weather conditions.

That is exactly what this installation was designed to deliver.

Dominic Taylor explains the thinking behind the technology choice.

“We want the very best experience for our winner. We pride ourselves on quality products that are going to give a winner a completely unencumbered experience of surprise and delight, and most importantly, just be energy independent.”

The system combines:

  • 24.7 kW of rooftop solar, with 2 x 10 kW three-phase Anker SOLIX hybrid inverters
  • 50 kWh Anker SOLIX battery storage
  • Three-phase Anker SOLIX EV charging capability
  • Backup protection during blackouts

According to Leigh Storr from Resinc Solar, the batteries were selected not only for their performance but also for their sleek design and practicality within the garage environment.

“A lot of our customers love the Anker SOLIX because of the aesthetics and the thin profile, especially in a garage where you’re bringing cars in.”

Unlike bulky storage systems that dominate wall space, the slimline profile allows the batteries to integrate neatly into the home without compromising functionality.

Built for Queensland conditions

One of the most important features of this installation is resilience.

Queensland homeowners know all too well how severe weather can disrupt the grid. Storms, cyclones, and extended outages can leave households without power for hours or even days. Leigh highlights that the system was designed specifically with these conditions in mind.

The home features marine-rated C5-M battery protection for coastal durability, along with backup power capabilities that allow essential circuits to continue operating during outages. Combined with the large solar array, the system can continue recharging the batteries even while operating off-grid.

That means homeowners can maintain power for critical appliances, lighting, refrigeration, communications, and more during blackout events.

For many Australians, that peace of mind is becoming just as important as bill savings.

Resinc Solar helping deliver smarter homes

The installation also highlights the growing role specialist installers play in delivering fully integrated energy solutions. Resinc Solar partnered with Anker SOLIX and Endeavour Foundation to donate and install the system, helping ensure the prize home reflects the future of modern Australian living.

Rather than treating solar, batteries, and EV charging as separate technologies, the project demonstrates how these systems now work together as part of a complete home energy ecosystem.

With EV ownership continuing to rise across Australia, homes that can generate, store, and intelligently manage energy are quickly becoming the benchmark for new residential design.

Supporting an important Australian cause

While the technology is impressive, the heart behind the project is equally important. Every ticket sold through Endeavour Lotteries helps support the work of Endeavour Foundation, which has spent 75 years assisting Australians with intellectual disability and their families. Today, the organisation is one of Australia’s largest employers of people with intellectual disabilities and provides support across employment, education, accommodation, and everyday living.

As Dominic explained:

“Every Australian can be super proud of the Endeavour Foundation and what we do to support people with an intellectual disability.”

It is this combination of purpose, sustainability, and innovation that makes the Maleny prize home stand out. This is not simply a luxury property. It is a showcase of how modern homes can combine architectural beauty, advanced clean energy technology, and meaningful social impact all under one roof.
