Late last year, Ford Motor Company announced it would transition some of its American EV manufacturing efforts to producing stationary battery energy storage systems. Today, Ford Energy was formally introduced to the world.
In a blog post, Ford Energy president Lisa Drake said the new Ford subsidiary will “deploy” at least 20 GWh of BESS annually to data centers, utilities and large C&I customers in the United States. First customer deliveries are planned for late 2027.
Ford Energy will manufacture battery cells, assemble packs and containers, and offer sales and service support.
The company’s main product, Ford Energy DC Block, is listed as a 5.45-MWh system in a standardized 20-ft container. It comes in two- and four-hour system configurations and uses 512-Ah prismatic LFP cells. The system is assembled at Ford’s converted battery manufacturing plant in Glendale, Kentucky.
