Officials from Millard County in Utah have granted zoning approval for Creekstone Energy to build a solar project on 13,000 acres of state trust land to help power its hyperscale data center campus in Delta, Utah. Creekstone executed a long-term solar lease with Utah’s School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (TLA), wherein revenue generated from the lease will directly benefit the Utah public education system, consistent with TLA’s mandate to maximize long-term financial returns for the state’s public school and other institutional trust beneficiaries.

Delta Gigasite rendering

Creekstone intends to develop more than 1 GW of solar power over the next 18 months on the leased acreage to support the power demands of Delta Gigasite, which sits on more than 1,100 acres in Millard County adjacent to the leased land and is master-planned for more than 10 GW of total capacity. The campus benefits from access to contracted firm natural gas supply and a favorable regulatory environment. Creekstone is actively advancing power generation and data center infrastructure to support deliveries beginning in 2027.

“This solar lease is a defining moment for Creekstone and for Utah,” said Ray Conley, CEO of Creekstone Energy. “We are building more than a data center campus — we are building an energy ecosystem. By pairing over a gigawatt of dedicated solar generation with our hyperscale data center infrastructure, we are positioning the Delta Gigasite at the forefront of the AI revolution while creating lasting economic value for Utah’s schools and communities. This is what responsible development looks like at scale.”

“The combination of the leased lands, Millard County’s proactive zoning approval, and our existing energy infrastructure creates a development corridor that is extremely difficult to replicate,” said Chase Sheffield, COO of Creekstone Energy. “With 13,000 acres now under lease, we have the land position to build a solar portfolio that materially offsets the power demands of our hyperscale tenants. We expect to begin site preparation and permitting activities immediately, with first solar generation online within the next year.”
