A unique feature of the SmartSolar charge controller is its ability to recharge severely depleted batteries. It can operate with a battery voltage as low as 0 Volts, provided the cells are not permanently sulphated or otherwise damaged. Ultrafast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)
Maximize Energy Harvest
The SmartSolar charge controller features ultrafast MPPT technology, which significantly improves energy harvest in conditions of variable light intensity, such as a clouded sky. Compared to PWM charge controllers, it boosts energy harvest by up to 30%, and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers. This ensures that you get the most out of your solar panels, even in less-than-ideal conditions.
Load Output for Battery Protection
The SmartSolar charge controller includes a load output feature to prevent over-discharge of the battery by disconnecting the load when the battery has been discharged to a pre-set voltage. The load output is short circuit proof and provides an intelligent battery management algorithm to optimize battery life.
Battery Life: Intelligent Battery Management
The Battery Life algorithm monitors the state of charge of the battery and, if needed, day by day slightly increases the load disconnect level until the harvested solar energy is sufficient to recharge the battery to nearly full capacity. This mode of operation ensures the battery is fully recharged regularly, preventing damage and extending battery life.
The SmartSolar charge controller also supports programmable battery charge algorithms and offers day/night timing and light dimming options, making it highly customizable to meet your specific energy needs.
An internal temperature sensor compensates for absorption and float charge voltage variations, and optional external battery voltage and temperature sensing via Bluetooth are supported for enhanced performance.
Additionally, the SmartSolar charge controller features a fully discharged battery recovery function, capable of initiating charging even if the battery has been discharged to zero volts. It will also reconnect to a fully discharged Li-ion battery with an integrated disconnect function, ensuring reliable recovery and performance.
