Description
Battery Balancer Equalizer by Victron Energy
As the demand for renewable energy sources rises, maintaining the health and efficiency of battery banks becomes crucial. The Victron Energy Battery Balancer is designed to equalize the state of charge of two series-connected 12V batteries, or multiple parallel strings of series-connected batteries. This ensures optimal performance and longevity of your battery bank by preventing undercharging and overcharging.
Why Battery Balancing is Essential
Battery banks often suffer from state of charge imbalance, which can significantly shorten their service life. An imbalance, caused by factors such as a higher internal leakage current in one battery, leads to undercharging and overcharging issues. Over time, this can damage the batteries, causing excessive gassing in overcharged batteries and sulphation in undercharged ones. The Victron Energy Battery Balancer addresses this problem by ensuring all batteries in the system converge to the same state of charge.
How the Victron Energy Battery Balancer Works
Efficient Charge Management
When the charge voltage of a 24V battery system exceeds 27V, the Battery Balancer activates. It compares the voltage of the two series-connected batteries and draws a current of up to 0.7A from the battery with the highest voltage. This differential charge current helps all batteries reach the same state of charge. For larger systems, multiple balancers can be paralleled, with three balancers required for a 48V battery bank.
Features and Benefits
LED Indicators for Easy Monitoring
The Victron Energy Battery Balancer comes with LED indicators that provide a clear status of the battery balancing process. Green indicates activation, orange shows which battery leg is active when the deviation is more than 0.1V, and red signals an alarm when the deviation exceeds 0.2V. The alarm relay, which is normally open, closes when the red LED is on and reopens once the deviation is corrected. These visual cues ensure you can easily monitor and manage the balancing process.
Enhanced Control with BMV-702 Battery Monitor
For even more control, the BMV-702 Battery Monitor can be used alongside the Battery Balancer. The BMV-702 measures the midpoint of a string of cells or batteries and displays the deviation from the ideal midpoint. It can trigger alarms and control a relay for remote alerts, providing comprehensive monitoring and management of your battery system. This integration offers enhanced control over your energy storage, ensuring peak performance at all times.
