Solar energy has become increasingly popular in recent years within Northern California, as people look for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and save money on energy bills. West Coast Solar understands that solar panels are one of the most efficient ways to utilize the sun’s energy, and they can be used to power a variety of things, from homes and businesses to vehicles and other applications. But how exactly do solar panels work?

Interested in having solar installed? Call West Coast Solar! Let’s schedule a consultation!

Silicon & Ions

Firstly, solar cells are made up of layers of silicon, which are treated differently. The top layer is treated with a positive charge, and the bottom layer has a negative charge. When light hits the solar cell, the photons from the light cause electrons to be released from the semiconductor material. This creates an electric field between the two layers of the solar cell, which is then collected and turned into usable energy.

Sun Absorbent Technologies

Secondly, solar panels are designed to absorb as much sunlight as possible. This is done by using a variety of materials and technologies to ensure that the solar cells absorb the maximum amount of light. These materials include an anti-reflective coating, which helps to reduce the amount of light that is reflected away from the solar cells.

Cell Connectivity

Thirdly, the solar cells are connected in a way that allows electricity to flow from one cell to another. This is done by connecting the cells in series, which ensures that electricity flows evenly throughout the entire panel.

Inverter Magic

Finally, solar panels are designed to convert the energy they absorb into usable electricity. This is done through the use of an inverter, which converts the DC electricity generated by the solar cells into AC electricity. This AC electricity can then be used to power a variety of things, such as lights and appliances.

These four explanations provided by West Coast Solar provide a basic overview of how solar panels work. Solar energy is a great option for homes and businesses, and if you are interested in solar energy on the west coast in California give West Coast Solar a call!
